The next era of impact:
Reimagining sustainable travel for people, nature and culture.
At SUITSUIT, we believe sustainable travel means travelling with as little negative impact on the climate as possible, while ensuring long-term benefits for the people and places we visit. It is about maximising the positive effects of travel and minimising the negative.
For us, sustainable travel is the conscious pursuit of balance – between social, economic and ecological sustainability.
Why this matters now
Travel is both a cultural force and an economic engine. Tourism represents ~10% of global GDP and provides work for around 350 million people worldwide; in 2023, EU residents alone made 1.1 billion overnight trips and spent €555 billion on travel.
Yet we do not shy away from the fact that the same system drives emissions: the travel sector accounts for 8–10% of global greenhouse gases, with air travel responsible for around half of sector emissions. And if we look beyond climate, overtourism concentrates pressure on local infrastructure and communities, in one in six EU regions, more than 40% of annual tourism falls in just two months, while unchecked growth risks displacement and loss of local culture. Biodiversity is at stake too, with approximately 5,930 species threatened by tourism and recreation.
And still, travel holds the potential to make a real difference to people, nature and culture.
Our definition of sustainable travel
We also recognise that travel, particularly air travel, is under scrutiny. Questions about whether travel conflicts with sustainability goals are both valid and necessary. As a brand that creates products to enable travel, we do not shy away from that responsibility.
However, we believe responsible travel goes beyond ecological considerations. It is about travelling in ways that are climate-conscious while safeguarding the long-term wellbeing of the places and communities we visit. For us, social, economic and environmental sustainability are equally important— especially over the long term.
Responsible travel is a balancing act between maximising the positive impact of travel while minimising the negative effects.
Reimagining sustainable travel; finding balance in how we move through the world
Every kilometre travelled leaves an imprint. But the challenge is not to stop travelling, that would mean losing all the potential for good it holds. We need to reimagine what it means to travel sustainably, to find balance in how we give and take as we explore the world. To travel sustainably, we need to broaden our perspective. We must look at the impact of travel not only in terms of what it costs, but also in what it gives. True sustainability goes beyond ecology, it’s also social and economic. When done with awareness and care, travel becomes a powerful force for empowerment: opening doors to growth, independence, equality, sustainability, and shared prosperity.
- Gender equality & inclusion. Women make up 54% of the tourism workforce yet hold only ~20% of executive roles—contributing to a 14.7% gender pay gap. When women gain voice and leadership, safety, fairness and inclusion improve for everyone.
- Local prosperity. Women make 82% of travel decisions and, as travellers, spend 15% more on local products; 65% prefer locally made goods that empower women. Directing spend to women-led, local businesses boosts resilient, vibrant communities.
What SUITSUIT commits to
We’re not in business simply to sell suitcases — we’re in business to empower women through travel. We make our choices — as a brand and as travellers — around balance: social, economic and ecological. As part of our commitment to empower women through travel, we provide funding to the SUITSUIT Foundation, which invests in projects that drive real change across the sector, with a focus on benefiting women.
Every kilometre leaves an imprint. The challenge isn’t to stop travelling—it’s to reimagine it. When we travel with reciprocity, we maximise the positive and minimise the negative so every journey empowers travellers, uplifts women, and sustains the places we love.
We invite you to take these considerations with you on your next journey.
Together, we can shape a more conscious way of travelling.
We are here to empower women through travel. We can’t do it without you.
